TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE
SECTION 1
official vs officious
这两个形容词不容混淆:前者是做"公务的","官方的"和"正式的"讲.而后者则是"过分殷勤的""好管闲事的"的意思.
例如:This is an official order from the commanding officer. 这是一份指挥官法下来的正式命令.
This news is coming from an official source. 这是一则来自官方的消息.
The consul's manner toward all tourists was officious. 这位领事对待所有的旅游者的态度都过分迁就.
Because he had no real authority, the clerk acted in an officious way. 由于这个职员没有实权,他只好权宜行事.

one vs soul
我们来看一下以下的例子和比较,就可以清楚的知道one和soul之间的区别了.
例如:There is not a soul in the dormitory. 宿舍里面空无一人.
The ship sank with 380 souls on board. 这艘船沉没时,船上有380人同时罹难.
比较:There is no one in the dormitory. 宿舍里面一个人也没有.
There is not a soul in the dormitory. 宿舍里面空无一人.
SECTION 3
oneself vs personally
用作“亲自”讲,两者是同义的。但是前者这个反身代词是强调或者突出主语的,而后者这个副词是修饰谓语动词的。
例如:If you go further into a question, you must take part in it yourself. 你要是深入研究一个问题,就的亲自投身进去。
Mike conducted us personally through the mansion. 麦克亲自领我们到大楼各处去看看。
SECTION 4
only vs one and only
后者这个复合形容词是前者这个形容词的强势形势。
比较:He is my only friend here. 在这里她是我唯一的朋友。
He is my one and only friend here. 在这里她是我独一无二的朋友。
