TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE
Section 1
happen vs take place
When did the explosion of fire-damp happen?
When will the wedding take place?
Section 2
illegal vs unlawful
It is illegal to park your car here.
Gambling is considered unlawful.
Gambling is not illegal in the States, but in other places some persons consider it unlawful.
Section 3
imaginary vs imaginative
例如:an imaginary enemy 假想的敌人;an imaginary character 虚构的人物;etc.
Section 4
impracticable vs impractical
His schemes were so impracticable that they were never put into action.
An impractical man can't ever boil an egg.
An impractical plan is impossible to fulfil.
Section 5
industrial vs industrious
例如:They are industrial workers.
She is an industrious housewife.
