Full Circle

        I had never been this* nervous from as far back as I can remember. There we sat each drinking a Corona* with the cool Fall breeze blowing past us.  Everything around us seemed to be affected by the breeze except us, it's like we were in a vacuum*which amplified the nervousness and the pit in the bottom of my stomach.  I heard the band playing and I even knew the songs they were singing, but at the same time I was like a tiger waiting for my moment to strike out.*

        I finally did, I reached out and grabbed her hand and held it tightly.  Lucky enough she squeezed it* and the perspiration in each of our hands mixed like water and concrete.*With all the nervousness quickly disappearing and self-confidence bordering on arrogance.* I gave her a wink* like I always knew that everything was going to be just fine.  That wink brought a smile that I had seen her give many times before to other people, but this one was special for it was only for me.  It was powerful enough to let me know that I was the one that mattered and like a vacuum, only the two of us existed and everything else was merely for decoration.*

        As the night continued on our chairs magically scooted closer to one another and her head became a fixture on my shoulder.* We spent that night together as man and woman. For as tender and sensuous as it was there was also raw deep passion that was very animalistic.* When the lovemaking was over and our bodies came to rest next to each other I looked at her, watching her chest rising and falling trying to replace the oxygen that had been expelled, I understood how two people could become one. I slowly reached over and grabbed her hand again.  Once again her fingers gripped tightly around mine and the perspiration solidified us.*

        It has been ten years since that night, and we are still together.  Every once in a while I will stretch out my hand, whither it's in bed, at the kitchen table, or on the sofa, as a reminder of what we give to each other.*
